Wendy is a true outdoorswoman; she enjoys an early autumn walk in the morning sun. I tried to capture that in this portrait.
I love it when a painting tells a story. It can be in the small details, but that’s often what makes all the difference for me.
“I work primarily with oil paint. The main advantages of oil paint are its long drying time, which allows for subtle color transitions and corrections. I also love its buttery texture. However, if an assignment requires it, I switch to acrylic paint, for example, in the case of an assignment with a short deadline.”
“A cherished painting is the portrait of my late father. I finished it just in time. He didn’t want to hang it, ‘because I’m not dead yet,’ were his words at the time. But I know he was proud of it. It was an important work for me too; his pride made me decide to take up painting again. I am grateful to him for that.”
“After painting my father’s portrait, a painting of our mother was a must. She loves to sing, so I captured her in her choir outfit, including a Bergs crab.”
